As I mentioned in my last post, I am enrolled in a Yoga class here on campus for 1 unit. Before I started the class, I had many unsure thoughts about yoga. Would I be able to twist my body into some crazy pretzel pose? Was I going to have to start drinking some fancy green juice and pretend to like it? Would I always be in those black stretchy ‘yoga pants”?
All of these thoughts I had came from years of stereotyping the cliché yoga go-ers I’ve seen on movies and television. However, last week I had my first yoga class session and I must say, a lot of these stereotypes were quickly shot down when I walked in. Most of the class was in regular clothes (grant it, there were a few of those all decked out in yoga attire), but none of which had some weird green shake in their hands, and after about 10 minutes into the class I realized that about 90% of them were beginners just like me (whew!)
Needless to say, I think I am really going to enjoy this class. It’s basically a full hour of stretching muscles that I didn’t even know I had. And the best part is that I can fully relax. I don’t have to answer my phone, worry about the latest social media headline, or even think about what’s for dinner. I can fully shut down and enjoy the peace and quiet.
So now I want to know…
Have you guys ever been to a yoga class? Did you have the same expectations as me?
